Purpose: Creating a community of intentional leaders in pursuit of excellence through gritty outdoor adventure and rigorous applied study.
How have the values of your organization shown up during this challenging past year?
Our values are exploration, connection, and excellence. They have shown up daily throughout the last year. We immediately began creating ways to bring people together when the pandemic began, starting with a 6-week wellness challenge. Over 60 people joined us to build healthy habits, come together for community support, and reach out to others by sending letters and social media messages to loved ones and employees.
We continued with an adventure prep series in which we taught core outdoor skills to help people prepare to get outside responsibly as the pandemic allowed more travel. We also offered free leadership coaching to help leaders move forward in confusing times. We constantly seek innovative ways to create strong and impactful community.
As the outdoors is a proven relatively safe place for COVID, we have run outdoor hikes in which we explore ecology, leadership, and Leave No Trace as well as almost 10 weekend adventures challenging leaders to show up as their best self despite troubled times.
We also created a virtual hike series in which people hike at a safe place of their choosing and join us for innovative discussions on leadership over the phone. We have had participants join our San Diego Community from all over the East Coast, Switzerland, and even Lebanon! Lastly in our efforts to build a strong community of leaders, we have offered reunion events for our alumni centered around community service, knowledge sharing, and outdoor stewardship on a monthly basis.
How has the business continued or adjusted to create value for and with key stakeholders?
